I’d like to share my fondest memories of Grandma – My Europe trip 2008.
In November 2008, I went to France to visit my auntie Peachy for three weeks. Grandma was also there with her friend Reba. We planned to drive from Auntie Peachy’s place in Antibes all the way to Rome, Italy for a one week excursion. Little did I realize that this road trip was going to be a trip of a lifetime!
We left early morning in Peachy’s BMW with Grandma and Reba taking the backseats. I quickly realized that they go way back because they were talking about their lives in the Philippines and all the friends and family they grew up with. While they chatted like away like old friends, Peachy and I took turns driving while listening to Amy Winehouse and Adele.
The drive was beautiful as we went along the Mediterranean coast. While exploring the towns, Grandma wanted to go into every cathedral for a quick look and prayer. Every time she would go towards the alter and pray for a couple of minutes. Her devotion to the church and spirituality was truly inspiring. Grandma also had to stop for gelato everywhere we went. She loved her ice cream!
When we made it to Rome and the Vatican, Grandma was in her element. We made it to the centre of Catholicism and gelato!
I am so grateful that I had this time with grandma and share this experience with her. Love you grandma and see you in heaven. Bing
