The Office of the Assistant Secretary for Technology, Information and Gateways (OASTIG) of the Department of National Defense (DND shall be responsible for planning and implementing IT strategies that meets the operational needs of the department and its bureaus towards a One Defense Team concept; and maintain security to reduce risk, respond to incidents and limit exposure in all areas of information.
The offices of the Management Information Systems Service (MISS) and Defense Situation Monitoring Center (DSMC) constitute the core staff of OASTIG. The office is directly under the Secretary of National Defense and should be headed by an Assistant Secretary. It also includes reviewing the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) plans, programs and budget proposals and actual program implementation of the following:
- The Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP);
- The Office of the Civil Defense (OCD);
- The National Defense College of the Philippines (NDCP);
- The Philippine Veterans Administration Office (PVAO), including the Veterans Memorial Medical Center (VMMC); and
- The Government Arsenal (GA).
A gateway is either hardware or software that acts as a bridge between two networks so that data can be shared and transferred…The office intends to connect the department to all its bureaus.

- Access to the Executive Information Systems (EIS)
- For economy of scale (ex. software licensing, broadband subscription, etc.)
- For Enterprise Resource Planning: PVAO-PGMC-VMMC data sharing
- AFP- nucleus on cyber operations (warfare) for CERT
- Connectivity through Video Teleconferencing (VTC)
- Develop the CMAIL of ASAIL
Why ASEC Level?
- He can sit on the Executive Board or the Senior Leader Discussion (DC#11);
- He can act on all ICT matters for the whole department and bureaus;
- He can orchestrate the digital transformation for all organization under the departmentl (cloud computing, big data analytics, mobile computing);
- He can establish close relationship among ASFM.ASHR, ASAIL;
- He can represent SND as Executive Director of the DICT’s Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center with rank of ASEC;
- He can act as Chair of the ADMM-Plus Expert Working Group for Cybersecurity;
- Cybersecurity and defense is now becoming a major concern to all organizations.
- He can assume as Data Protection Officer (DPO).
