Why Kerberus?
This name came up in the search for a computer term that befits a cybersecurity company.
Kerberos stood out among the suggested names in the balloting process, which included names, such as: FiGeCSi (5th Generation Cybersecurity Solutions Incorporated), Binary Defense, Cypher Techn0l0gy Solutions, Ones and Zeroes Security and C5 (for Command & Control, Communications, Computers and Cyber but C5 connotes the notoriety of the traffic-bound C5 road). The original spelling was Kerberos with an O, and the nearest variant in the spelling was using C instead of K, as in Cerberus.
With a Visayan in the group, not only in the pronunciation is Kerberus with a “u” both stronger and tougher, it has character and attitude. And most important of all, upon checking out the word in the Security and Exchange Commission (SEC) website, the term is not yet taken!
The primary consideration for the name, Kerberus, is for the reason that it is a recognized computer term. Kerberus is a network authentication protocol using encrypted ticketing keys passing through a key distribution centre (KDC) utilizing a single-sign-on (SSO) method. So a “kerberized” application will automatically be authenticated that the user is valid.
People after hearing this who are not well-versed with computers might say, “That’s Greek to me!” In fact the term is really a Greek word, borrowed from Homer’s saga Odyssey in Greek mythology. The name Kerberus was adopted by MIT (not Mapua) scholars in the protocol that they designed way back in the 80’s for what it signified.
Kerberus is the name of the 3-headed dog of King Hades, the guardian of the Underworld. He is the brother of Poseidon, the king of the sea, and Zeus, the king of the sky and thunder. Now, you understand! When asked what the name stands for, you know the answer.
However, the logo designed by the commissioned graphics artist is a 3-headed lion, in consideration of other stories that describe Kerberus is a 3-headed lion. Lions are more fierce-looking than dogs, hence, more fearsome.
According to the President of the company, Mr. Tato Garcia, in his own words, “The 3 heads would represent 1) the company, 2) its clients and 3) the clients’ customers.”
Nevertheless, the logo may look like Optimus Prime in the Transformers movie franchise. Therefore you really have to stare longer to ascertain they are lions.
Kerberus Corporation came into being as an affiliate of 5GS Inc. (formerly G4S Holdings Inc., a British Company) and PT&T, a Telco.
Today, almost all companies have given much attention to cybersecurity. C-suite executives are now aware of the advance persistent threats (APT) and such threats are no longer posed by teenage hackers in basements or attics hoping to gain notoriety for fun and fame, but by professionals who are part of organized cybercrime groups hacking their way in for financial profit. Some are even state-sponsored hackers who conduct industrial and military cyber-espionage.
The Mission/Vision of the corporation is: “To provide premium ICT and cybersecurity solutions aligned to our clients’ business and technological strategies to meet current and future customer needs.”
The company intends to foray into 1) Business Solutions (managed services, fulfillment solutions, systems integration, digital transformation), 2) Technological strategies (bandwidth, IoT, AI, emerging tech, SoC and DDoS, VAPT, Cloud and Datacenter, Analytics & Blockchain-FinTech) and 3) ICT Consulting, E learning, Training/Education.
So for now, Kerberus Corporation is out to evangelize and proclaim to the world that companies need to be Kerberized! Prevent Kerberoasting, where network credentials can be stolen . . .
Kerberus Corporation is a startup company but the people are considered veterans in the business and battle-ready…
