Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver Holds Seminar on Cybersecurity

06 June 2017 VANCOUVER – The personnel of the Philippine Consulate General in Vancouver attended a seminar on cybersecurity conducted by Brigadier Gen. Jesus V. Lomeda, Chief of the Management Information Systems Service (MISS) of the Department of National Defense (DND) of the Philippines on June 01.

Consul General Neil Frank R. Ferrer welcomed and expressed gratitude to Brigadier Gen. Lomeda for sharing his knowledge and expertise on how to protect and secure our electronic network and data from unauthorized use. He also stressed the importance of securing our data in light of recent events such as the WannaCry ransomware attacks perpetrated by cybercriminals with malicious intent.

Brig. Gen. Lomeda highlighted the urgent need for government agencies, especially those engaged in processing personal data of individuals and clients, to invest in information security tools and mechanisms that will protect their operating systems and software from cyberattacks. 

The resource person also shared various do’s and don’ts to protect one’s personal data when engaging in multiple online media platforms, e.g. password protection, deletion of browsing history, among others. END
